Under the supervision of Dr. Hassanein Amer and the SEAD group, a team of undergraduate students: Maha Shatta, Fatema Lokma, Seif Ahmed, Mostafa Nosseir, and Ahmed Elghoul developed an innovative device called “GlucoClip” for their thesis project. The device helps people with diabetes achieve a higher quality of life by allowing them to measure their blood glucose levels with a good level of accuracy safely and non-invasively using near-infrared light.

Pioneering a research registry on novel biomarkers found in early stages of dementia within the Egyptian population, Shimaa Heikal (MSc '22), PhD candidate at AUC’s Institute of Global Health and Human Ecology (I-GHHE), is among the first 10 awardees for the 100 PhDs in Africa program. 

Sarah Abdelkader (MSc ‘20), an environmental health PhD student at AUC's Institute of Global Health and Human Ecology (I-GHHE), has won the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Talented Scientist award for Egypt, for her innovative work in sustainable agricultural wastewater treatment.

WEF Technologies Diploma students at AUC built 2 training multi-span greenhouses as a part of their hands-on activities in the Modern Agriculture course. 

Undergraduate Students in AUC’s School of Business ranked third globally in the Canada-based Engineering Commerce Case Competition (EngComm), the “world’s only student-led multidisciplinary case competition.” The students also won awards for Best Business Solution, Best Engineering Solution and Most Economically Feasible Solution. 

After conducting research at the University of Arizona, presenting at the World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics, and Informatics in 2020 and winning AUC’s Excellence in Undergraduate Research Award one year later, Nour-Lyna Boulgamh ‘21, an Algerian Amazigh and Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship recipient who majored in architectural engineering, now has her sights set on a larger feat: solving the housing crisis for displaced individuals in the Middle East and North Africa.

When high schooler Rahma Swidan asked for advice on Facebook about entering one of Egypt’s new science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) high schools, senior construction engineering major Yousef Berbar responded. 

That interaction has resulted in a growing network of students learning to navigate the ins and outs of early professional life together.
