About Eltoukhy Learning Factory

The Eltoukhy Learning Factory provides a unique and collaborative learning environment for students at the American University in Cairo (AUC). This state-of-the-art facility, the first of its kind in Egypt, brings together students, faculty, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. The goal is to help students strengthen their multi-disciplinary and problem-solving skills, preparing them for successful careers in diverse professional sectors. This innovative teaching and workshop environment is made possible through the generous support of AUC Trustee Atef Helmy Eltoukhy '74 and Fofa Eltoukhy.

Empowering Students

As part of their "capstone projects" at the culmination of their studies, students have the opportunity to develop their ideas and bring them to fruition at the Eltoukhy Learning Factory. They can access the resources of the Factory and the expertise of AUC faculty to combine classroom teaching, hands-on learning, teamwork, and real-life applications. This collaborative environment also allows students to interact with representatives from industry and other sectors, fostering partnerships and industry-sponsored challenges.

State-of-the-Art Equipment

To ensure that students have the competitive skills and knowledge required upon graduation, the Eltoukhy Learning Factory is equipped with the latest technology and diverse tools. Students can benefit from state-of-the-art equipment such as laser cutting, bench-top Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, waterjet, and 3D printing. Additionally, various electronic control and testing equipment, as well as Internet of Things capabilities, are available. AUC faculty members from departments including computer science and engineering and mechanical engineering department provide support to the students. 

The Eltoukhy Learning Factory is closely linked to the AUC Venture Lab, which helps prototype startup ideas and transform successful projects into new startups. This integration allows students to explore entrepreneurship and turn their innovative ideas into viable businesses. Furthermore, AUC's Educational Virtual Environment (VR Lab) is also integrated with the Learning Factory, enabling students to engage in virtual prototyping before fabrication and testing.
