The Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering (PENG) offers graduates the opportunity to join a challenging and exciting career to explore, develop and produce oil and gas resources.

Mission

The mission of the PENG department is to provide students with a world-class, accredited petroleum engineering education within the context of a liberal arts environment, and prepare them for a successful career in the Petroleum industry, both locally and internationally. The program instills in the student's pursuit of excellence, coupled with social responsibility, ethical conduct, and professional behavior.

Objectives

The petroleum engineering program at AUC graduates a petroleum engineer who, within a few years of graduation, meets societal needs in one or more of the following roles:

  • A professional team member to meet local and global petroleum industry demands
  • A successful member of an academic or research organization or an entrepreneur
  • A distinguished member of the petroleum community through promotion or professional development with an awareness of ethics and environmental issues

Learning Outcomes

Students will gain the following knowledge and skills:

  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. 
  • An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  • An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
