Our faculty are engaged in research in many areas, including computational fluid dynamics, heat transfer, renewable energy, dynamics, vibrations, control, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, materials and process selection, design optimization, synthesis and processing of bulk nanostructured materials, metal and polymer matrix nanocomposites, thin films for wear-resistant, high temperature and biomedical applications, nonlinear stress analysis, failure, finite element analysis and mechatronics.
Design
Cardiovascular Multiphysics, Multiscale Mechanics, Micromechanics, Nonlinear Fracture Mechanics, Computational Modeling and Simulation. Non-Linear Stress Analysis, Failure Analysis, with emphasis on Pressure Vessels and Piping, Solar Desalination. Quality Assurance
Modeling and optimization of project networks, taking into account time-cost tradeoffs as well as simulation of stochastic activity networks. Industrial diagnosis, production planning, productivity improvement and yield management (YM). Development and optimization of mathematical models for service systems, including water, sewer and energy networks. Formulation of linear, integer or nonlinear programming models using single or multi-criteria.

Developing and characterizing biodegradable composite materials from natural resources for use in the packaging and biomedical industries. Developing the techniques and identifying the added layer manufacturing and 3D printing parameters for use in the repair of worn components in the aviation industry. Graphene synthesis and integration within microsystems, transport phenomena in graphene/semiconductor junctions for sensor applications, graphene composites for structural and energy conversion applications, interface phenomena in graphene composite structures, design and fabrication of physical sensors and biochemical sensors, novel substrates, micro-robotic structures for advanced cancer detection and biological cell manipulation. Materials and process selection, nanocomposites, especially Al-CNT composites, CNT strain gauges, CNT-polymeric membranes for water filtration and desalination, and clay nanocomposites for gas separation.
