AUC Water Scarcity facilities in CARES in preparation for AUC@COP27

With AUC's Climate Change Initiative ramping up ahead of Egypt hosting the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, AUC@COP27 , The Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability (CARES) recently hosted American University in Cairo President Ahmad Dallal, Provost Ehab Abdel-Rahman, Vice President of Institutional Advancement Richard Brow and School of Sciences and Engineering Dean Lotfi Gaafar and their honored guest, Al Habtoor Group founder and chairman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor.

The visit was an opportunity to provide our esteemed guests with an overview of CARES research addressing water scarcity, food security and high energy consumption in Egypt and the region. A tour of CARES facilities was also given, it included the inauguration of the new semi-commercial water desalination plant, the controlled greenhouse crop production facility, and the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) facility.
