Science, Knowledge and Fun

‘Wonders of Sciences Show’ is a science show involving a set of scientific demonstrations and experiments in interactive and entertaining ways. The show is developed and delivered by the American University in Cairo (AUC) science communication team. The main aim of the show is to raise the sense of curiosity for understanding the reasons behind strange and amazing experiments they are watching by mixing science with fun.

Through this 50-minute show, audiences enjoy an adventurous scientific journey where they can participate interactively to discover the wonders of science. Demonstrations and experiments of the show cover the scientific topics of laws of motion, pressure, waves of sound and light, electricity, and magnetism, in addition to other topics in different fields of science.

One unique feature of ‘Wonders of Sciences Show’ is that it is a mobile show that can travel to reach every corner of Egypt. Since September 2014, ‘Wonders of Science Show’ has been traveling to ten different Egyptian cities, including Cairo, Giza, Damietta, Ismailia, Mansoura, Monofya, Port Said, Suhag, Tanta, and Zagazig, where it was performed 500 times in front of 11,500 individuals most of them are school students.

Bringing the entire Universe to you!

With our portable Planetarium, audiences can explore the enigmatic beauty of the night sky, wonder at the scientific marvels and take a live tour from Earth, picking out visible planets, our moon, stars and galaxies. Our Planetarium is an inflatable portable facility where astronomical simulations and scientific movies are projected onto its dome-shaped wall in an immersive 360-degree unique experience.

Inside the Planetarium, a Science Communicator engages the audience in a journey from our planet to the edge of the solar system, reaching the wider Universe. Through this journey, the science communicator leads a discussion with the audience about different scientific concepts in astronomy. In addition, different full-dome movies are shown discussing various topics, including space travel, universe exploration, colonization of the moon, the history of telescopes, and a trip inside the human body.

The Planetarium show has been delivered 330 times in different cities all over Egypt for 8,000 individuals, most of whom are school students.

The Spinning Laboratory!

The Spinatory is a small, closed round laboratory, which rotates around its center in a circular motion. The Spinatory's main objective is to change the impression people have about science in general and physics in particular, which people consider a boring subject. Through the laboratory's interactive and experimental tools, students, kids and the general public can practice science and examine how funny it can be.

The Spinatory can accommodate around 12 participants. Participants inside the Spinatory experience certain physical phenomena in a different way than they are familiar to in normal conditions. For instance, if two participants throw a ball at each other, the ball will be deflected from the expected path. Different fun and surprising activities can be performed inside this unique facility, including playing darts and table tennis inside a rotating room!

The main aim of AUC science camps is to inspire school students about science and motivate them to pursue careers in the sciences through participating in fun, hands-on science activities. In addition, they encourage teamwork among participants and allow them to discover their potential in making complex crafts and science demonstrations.

Science Bus is the newest science communication project of AUC’s FunLab. The main aim of the Science Bus is to provide a state-of-the-art mobile facility to promote science and raise scientific awareness across Egypt. The Science Bus includes a mobile science exhibition where audiences can experience science through mind-blowing demonstrations and activities. Besides, the bus provides a mobile venue to deliver the ‘Wonders of Sciences Show’ outdoors.
