About the Department of Biological, Chemical and Global Health Sciences

The Department of Biological, Chemical and Global Health Sciences (BCG) brings together expertise in Biology, Chemistry, and Global Health to address urgent environmental and public health challenges. We connect laboratory discovery with real-world application, developing solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities. The Department hosts two undergraduate degrees, the  B.Sc. in Biology and the  B.Sc. in Chemistry, as well as a diverse range of graduate programs including the M.Sc. in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Chemistry, Master's in Public Health, and M.Sc. in Sustainable Development, reflecting its commitment to advancing education and research across multiple disciplines.

Our approach is rooted in translational science, preparing students to become agile problem-solvers who combine scientific rigor with cross-disciplinary collaboration. Supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, including the Biomarkers, Environmental Assessment of Risks and Toxics on Health (EARTH Lab) and Central Neuromics and Sequencing Laboratory (CNS), Animal Research Facility, the Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics Lab, Tissue Culture and Cell Plasticity Lab, and advanced analytical and materials characterization facilities, our faculty and students conduct research that serves society and advances a healthier, more sustainable world.

Premedical Track

The premedical track is now available at Nancy Hopkins Department of Biology. While any major at AUC is eligible for the premedical track, certain disciplines offer more direct relevance to medical school requirements.
