Message from the Director

Yehea Ismail I left my tenure position at Northwestern University and came back to Egypt to join AUC and help Dr. Zewail with his project, because of my belief in the potential and abilities of young Egyptians in giving the right opportunity. With that conviction, we started the Center for Nanoelectronics and Devices (CND) with the help of Dr. Medhat Haroun, AUC Provost at the time, and Dr. Ahmed Zewail.

Since its establishment in April 2012, the Center collaborated with top international industries and was founded by Intel, Mentor Graphics, Silicon Vision, Global Foundries, Helic CAD, Semi-Conductor Research collaborations which include IBM, Synopsys, among many others.

The faculty and researchers in the Center have contributed tremendously to the global industry and the contributions of the Center has helped into major acquisitions in fields of: Electronic devices, Custom digital VLSI, Analog, RF and mixed-signal circuits, Bio-chips, System-on-Chip (SoC) design, Solar harvesting, CAD, MEMs, optics and optoelectronics, EDA, Innovative Design Methodologies and Verification Techniques, and Hybrid Systems Integration.

The Center’s Alumni have not only gone to the industry but also to major international universities as professors and researchers e.g. MIT, Caltech, Ohio State, Cornel, Northwestern, USC, Georgia Tech, McGill, Waterloo, UBC, UIUC, UCSD, NUS …

Hence, I am very happy that the Center is achieving its mission of acting as a bridge between the Egyptian talent and top international industry and academia exposing this talent in creating a network of talented Egyptians around the world.
