The Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering (PENG) offers the graduates the opportunity to join a challenging and exciting career to explore, develop and produce oil and gas resources. 


The mission of the PENG department is to provide students with a world-class, accredited petroleum engineering education within the context of a liberal arts environment, and prepare them for a successful career in the Petroleum industry, both locally and internationally. The program instills in the students' pursuit of excellence, coupled with social responsibility, ethical conduct, and professional behavior.

The petroleum engineering program at AUC graduates a petroleum engineer who, within a few years of graduation, meets societal needs in one or more of the following roles:

  • A professional team member to meet local and global petroleum industry demands

  • A successful member of an academic or research organization or as an entrepreneur

  • A distinguished member of the petroleum community through promotion or professional development with an awareness of ethics and environmental issues

Students will gain the following knowledge and skills:

  • An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering 

  • An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

  • An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

  • An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams

  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

  • An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

  • An ability to communicate effectively

  • The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context

  • A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning

  • A knowledge of contemporary issues

  • An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
