Resources
Facilities of the Department of Architecture include design studios and labs that host state-of-the-art equipment and software and offer an unrivaled digital environment for students.
The Design Studio
The design studio is the core of the architectural academic process in the Department of Architecture at AUC. The experience in the studio is the primary mode of exploration and learning. Students are encouraged to apply the content and skills learned in other courses to the design process in the studio. The process, rather than the product, is focused on as the product is viewed as a cumulative reflection of that process.
Testing Lab
A state-of-the-art testing lab with a primary mission to advance high-performance building design and sustainable practices in Egypt. It houses an Environmental Chamber for testing full-size wall/window samples, a Heliodon for modeling daylight and advanced computer simulation facilities. A sophisticated weather station supports these activities.
Digital Fabrication and Laser Cutting Lab
A state-of-the-art computational design lab housing laser cutting and 3D printing equipment to advance the parametric architectural design and modeling practice. It houses laser cutters and 3D printers.
Computing Facilities
Two teaching labs housing high-performance computers, an open lab with free student access for project development and printing. The design studios are also equipped with computers for student work. All are linked with a high-speed network.
