Program Overview

AUC’s chemistry program trains students in both theory and practice in the major branches of chemistry. It prepares students for careers in diverse fields, including industries (chemical, food, and beverage, pharmaceutical, metal and metal finishing, cement, petrochemical, textile, and paint); environmental monitoring and protection; quality control and quality assurance; clinical analysis; diagnostics; marketing and sales for chemicals and specialty chemicals; education; and academic and industrial research. Accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) and the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. The undergraduate program covers the five main branches of chemistry: organic, biochemistry, inorganic, physical, and analytical.

Two areas of specialization are offered: clinical chemistry and industrial chemistry.

Practical Experience

Internship opportunities through AUC's Career Center are available for chemistry students in national and multinational companies in preparation for the job market. Intern positions range from lab chemists and R&D specialists to product developers and production specialists, among others.

Faculty Spotlight

The program’s esteemed faculty includes Hassan Azzazy, distinguished university professor and chair of the department of chemistry. Named in Stanford University’s list of the top 2% most cited scientists in the world, Azzazy focuses his research on innovative diagnostics for the accurate and affordable detection of biomarkers of infectious agents and cancer. Along with his research group, he also develops biodegradable nanofibers for antibacterial wound dressings.
