Program Overview

AUC’s petroleum engineering program adopts an integrated approach, striking a balance between the fundamentals of oil and gas exploration, production and practical know-how, and applications of advanced technology. The program focuses on strengthening ties with the industry and provides graduates with excellent opportunities in the regional and global job markets. 

Students of the Program

This program is suitable for students who are interested in the discovery, exploration, and processing of the earth's energy resources through the knowledge of basic sciences, geosciences, and petroleum engineering.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the petroleum engineering program at AUC are able, within a few years of graduation, to meet societal needs in one or more of the following roles:

• A professional team member to meet local and global petroleum industry demands.

• A successful member of an academic or research organization or as an entrepreneur.

• A distinguished member in the petroleum community through promotion or professional development with awareness of ethics and environmental issues.

ABET Student Outcomes

Students will gain the following knowledge and skills:

• Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.

• Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.

• Communicate effectively with a range of audiences

• Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

• Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.

• Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.

• Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Alumni of the Program

The program’s many alumni include Sherif Fakher ’16, who holds a PhD from Missouri University of Science and Technology and is an assistant professor at AUC. His research resulted in the publication of more than forty technical papers and multiple awards worldwide.
